Employer's Approach to Diversity, Equity, & Belonging

Cathedral Square is a nonprofit, equal-opportunity employer. Our organization and our communities are welcoming and inclusive, embracing diversity in all its forms. We hire without regard to race, color, religion, age, national origin, ancestry, disability or handicap, sexual orientation, gender, gender expression, gender identity, HIV status or any other protected classification under Vermont and federal law. We recruit, hire, train, compensate, advance and administer all other employment-related matters solely on the basis of each individual’s qualifications and experience. Our commitment to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion shapes how we care for residents, support staff, and show up in our communities every day.
In 2025, we earned national recognition through the Long-Term Care Equality Index as one of only 274 senior housing communities in the country committed to inclusive care for LGBTQ+ older adults. This reflects our policies, training, and culture, ensuring every resident can age with dignity and be their authentic self.
Our staff JEDI committee drives ongoing education and engagement through book discussions, cultural sharing events, and conversations about identity and belonging. We have set concrete diversity targets for management-level positions and actively partner with organizations including Vermont Professionals of Color to recruit BIPOC staff and board members. We survey residents and staff annually to listen, learn, and improve.
