Organization Description
Vermont Low Income Trust for Electricity - VLITE is a public benefit nonprofit corporation that was created by the Public Service Board as part of the merger of Green Mountain Power and CVPS. One of VLITE's responsibilities is to name three independent directors to the VELCO board that will represent the public good. The VELCO board has thirteen seats most of which are filled by electric utility nominees. VLITE's nominees are meant to bring a broader perspective to the VELCO board. So background in the electric sector is NOT a requirement for a VLITE-nominee. The successful candidate should be able to actively participate and learn complex subject matter. Professional experience, board experience, public service, and life experience can all contribute towards qualifying. We have broadly advertised the selection process in the hopes of getting a diverse pool of applicants with lots of different professional backgrounds. We wrote the announcement in plain English, including that this is a compensated board position.
