Organization Description
Rooted in Vermont since 1977, the Vermont Land Trust has protected more than 620,000 acres of farmland, forestland, and community lands covering over 11% of the state. Much of this land is privately-owned and contributes to our local food, maple and timber products, tourism and recreation, and the vitality of our towns and villages. Our current board is composed of over a dozen conservation champions from all corners of the state. They include lawyers, dairy farmers, PhD students, foresters, nonprofit professionals, and more.Organization's Approach to Diversity, Equity, Belonging, & Inclusion
VLT has an internal staff power, privilege and equity working group and the board DEI activities integrated into each committee's annual work plans.
VLT is also determining how it can better be an ally to historically underserved and marginalized communities through its programmatic efforts, including encouraging equity and justice through its land access work.
Board Terms and Term Limits
A board term is three years and there is a limit of three terms. It isn’t expected that a trustee would need to complete all three terms if they join the board.Frequency & Duration of Board Meetings
The Board meets in person (hybrid) four times a year. These meetings are typically a day with the annual retreat having an overnight component. Trustees are also expected to serve on a committee which would meet virtually (and roughly four times a year as well).Stipends for Board Membership
We do not currently have stipends but are working to determine how to structure this program while remaining compliant with our organizational documents and IRS and Land Trust Alliance accreditation requirements. VLT reimburses mileage for in person meetings. If Interested, Send Letter of Interest to the Following Point of Contact:
