Organization Description
The Vermont Journalism Trust is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization whose mission is to produce rigorous journalism that explains complex issues, promotes public accountability and fosters democratic and civic engagement. The primary work of the Vermont Journalism Trust is VTDigger. The Trust is seeking candidates to join the Board that governs the organization. Board service offers a meaningful way to contribute to expanding access to news and information for people who care about Vermont. The volunteer Board helps set the organization’s mission and strategic vision, corporate policies, the annual budget, the collective bargaining agreement, and the hiring and performance of the CEO. Some 500,000+ monthly readers rely on VTDigger for fact-checked content that is digitally published and made available without a paywall. Our journalists are out in the field and investigating reader tips daily. VTDigger relies on reader support (membership), underwriting, major donors and grants to pay for this important work.Organization's Approach to Diversity, Equity, Belonging, & Inclusion
A key goal of VTDigger’s strategic plan is to build, diversify, and strengthen engagement with VTDigger’s audience. We aspire to equitably serve the news and information needs of all Vermonters, including but not limited to rural, low-income, and BIPOC communities. We have conducted demographic surveys of our sources, the people quoted in articles, and the authors of letters and commentaries we publish so we can make adjustments to continually better reflect the community we serve.
