In the wake of COVID-19 and its associated social justice movements that surfaced long-existing systemic inequities embedded within the United States, CCRPC began a deliberate journey to understand its history and community impacts, integrate systemic change into organizational culture and reframe a process for collaboration and decision-making to rectify the inequities within our field, and to develop policies and programs to foster equity and opportunity. Since 2020, CCRPC has issued an organizational commitment to redefine CCRPC’s role in contributing to systemic inequities through its planning practices, established an Equity Leadership Team, facilitated racial equity workshops, hosted a Planning for Equity Summit, established a Community Engagement Advisory Committee (CEAC), hired a full-time Outreach and Engagement Manager, adopted an organizational Equity Commitment and an updated Code of Conduct, and built sustainable and reciprocal relationships with community partners from systemically marginalized groups.

Organization Description
The Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission (CCRPC) is one of eleven commissions serving Vermont municipalities. CCRPC provides land use and transportation planning services to its 19 member municipalities, and conducts region-wide transportation planning as a federally designated metropolitan planning organization.
CCRPC's board is comprised of a member from each municipality, plus
state, federal, and interest area members (agriculture, industrial/business, socio/economic/housing, environmental). Information on the board is available here: https://www.ccrpcvt.org/about-us/commission/commissioners-alternates/
In June 2024, the Vermont Legislature passed Act 181, which overhauls Vermont’s planning framework for coordinating state, regional, and municipal land use. As a part of the bill, all Regional Planning Commissions must update their Future Land Use maps by identifying areas for growth, conservation, and other purposes based on environmental, infrastructure, and community factors. Meaningful participation is a key part of this mapping process. CCRPC will be hosting six 90-minute online focus groups between now and mid-March to share more information about the Future Land Use map and gather input from communities to help inform the final product.
