Organization Description
Community Health Centers is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization providing medical, dental and mental health care to over 35,000 patients throughout Chittenden and southern Grand Isle counties. For over 50 years, CHC has been providing these services to all members of our community, regardless of financial status or life circumstance, with specialized programs for vulnerable populations. As a Federally Qualified Health Center, more than half of CHC’s Board of Directors are active patients, living and working in our community.
A few key responsibilities for the CHC Board include:
Determining mission and purposes
Ensuring effective organizational planning
Monitoring and strengthening programs and services
If a full Board committee is not of interest, sub-committees welcome community members to join. These committees include: Governance, Clinical Practice, Community Relations & Development, Finance, and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.Organization's Approach to Diversity, Equity, Belonging, & Inclusion
CHC hired its first DEI Director in 2022 and that position has collaborated with senior leaders to establish key structures to engage patients (Patient Advisory Council), leaders (Executive Council), and the Board of Directors (Board DEI Committee) and restructured the Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) Committee for staff. The primary objective of these structures is to engage the organization on a DEI vision that enhances the positive experience of all patients and ensures a workplace culture that is respectful and values diversity, justice, equity, and inclusion among staff.
Board Terms and Term Limits
Three-year term, limit of threeFrequency & Duration of Board Meetings
Once a month for two hours for full Board meetings, along with at least one one-hour sub-committee meeting.Stipends for Board Membership
