The Vermont Public Health Association seeks an Executive Director who has the vision and advanced skills to support us as we work to grow and enhance the nature and scope of our services to Vermont public health professionals and the Vermont public. We have recently been engaged in expanded public health work due to CDC Health Equity funding and are now engaging in strategic planning to guide us in our organizational growth and expanded mission to promote health equity. We envision an Executive Director who, in working with the President and the Board, can guide us in these efforts by the efficient management of the workings of the VtPHA. The VtPHA is a membership organization which facilitates collaboration among people who care about public health and are committed to protecting and promoting the health of Vermonters. Examples of Work:
- Provide strategic direction, in partnership with the VtPHA President and Board, to manage and grow the VtPHA in meeting its mission and vision.
- Fiscal management in oversight of the budget and revenue, in consultation with the Treasurer, Finance Committee, President, and Board.
- Provide direction for increasing membership and support for event planning and expanding services to membership.
- Explore and develop new funding opportunities and relations to grow the annual budget and expand the VtPHA capacity to further our mission.
- Expand collaboration with community partners to reflect the diverse nature of Vermont’s population and public health needs.
- Work with the Board to increase its diversity and the diversity of membership.
- Coordinate with Committee Chairs and support ongoing work products.
- In consultation with the Board President, develop monthly Board meeting agenda, prepare materials, and insure follow up.
- Manage digital storage of documents and records for easy and efficient access to information and records.
- Manage grant processing, invoices, quality assurance, and other key duties as needed.
- Grant seeking and grants management.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Development, fund raising, donor relations experience/skills.
- Experience in nonprofit work and in the overall field of public and community health.
- Solid marketing and communication skills.
- Solid technology skills including Microsoft Office products.
- Ability to work with a diverse group of board members.
- Well-developed interpersonal communications skills.
- Grant writing, administration, and management.
The ideal candidate will have at a minimum a bachelor’s degree with experience in organizational management and a familiarity with the concepts and profession of public health.
This position is planned to be mostly working remotely, with attendance requested at some in-person meetings. The person will report to the Board President of the VtPHA.

Salary range is $32.00 to $38.00 per hour depending upon experience and education. This is a 24 hour per week position that will remain open until filled.
A key tenet of public health practice to approach solutions for public health issues using an equity lens. The VtPHA has this goal in our vision as we hire our first Executive Director. The leadership and expanded capacity enabled by this position will allow the VtPHA to assess and act on where we need to expand our membership and services so as to more fully reflect our commitment to DEI. We will be holding a Board Strategic Planning process this spring which with the intention to articulate our DEI goals and action.
