South Burlington School District is committed to excellence in education and ensuring that each student has the knowledge, skills and character to create a successful and responsible life. We strive to do this by attracting and developing a diverse workforce that reflects the students and community.
Our district has hired an Executive Director of Equity to help shape our processes and systems to better our learning of inequitable, racist, and oppressive work cultures. We currently have constructed building based, student focused committees that focus on equity, inclusion, mindfulness, and resilience. These committees work hard to positively promote antiracism, diversity, equity, and inclusion practices, inform learning, and engage in conversations.
The District is actively involved in educating our workforce through Courageous Conversation, a Pacific Educational Group training program and through Teaching Tolerance. Our District approaches learning through a Multi-Tiered System of Support and has implemented inclusionary classrooms for all learners, Restorative Justice Practices, PBIS, and social emotional learning supports.
While we still believe that we have much to learn and do, we believe in our focus to inspire all learners to make a difference in the world regardless of racist, oppressive, and inequitable systems.
