About this Position: Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Residential Installation Manager will oversee SunCommon’s residential and small commercial solar installation crews, ensuring they do safe, high quality work.  The position requires expert communication and organization with an eye toward continuous improvement.  The Installation Manager plays a key role within the Operations management team to implement new initiatives and products.

Safety for our team, our customers, and their property is our primary priority.  The Installation Manager is expected to follow safety protocols and keep up with the advancements in solar and other relevant technologies with the goal of holding the installation team responsible for meeting these standards.

The position requires a person who is knowledgable in all areas of residential PV solar installation, flexible set clear expectations, and is a skilled communicator.  The installation Manager will spend time working on-site with our installation crews, and in SunCommon’s Waterbury VT office.  A dedication to taking the best possible care of our customers and colleagues is essential.

Essential Job Functions:  The Installation Manager will:

  • Manage Crew Leads and Installers, including supervising employees, managing data, maintaining metrics, and developing and meeting quantitative goals (safety, efficiency, quality, productivity).
  • Actively Collaborates with the Safety officer /manager and Safety Committee to ensure our installers have needed training, tools, PPE and guidance to work safely in all of our working conditions.
  • Provide exceptional customer service.  Handle elevated customer situation with grace, compassion and an eye towards business sustainability.  Identify areas where customer expectations can be clarified and tools to make this a reality.  Develop tools to track and improve customer experience.
  • Complete administrative tasks, such as tool purchasing & tracking, time sheets, Expensify reimbursement reports, PTO approval & tracking, install schedule update and review, Purchase Orders in NetSuite, tracking install metrics, monthly graphs, bonus calculations, heavy machinery maintenance/rental management.
  • Actively perform Quality Control tasks.  Reviewing installation photos, pre-install meeting analysis documenting layouts as built.
  • Be responsible for co-managing the installation Program’s vehicle fleet, in regards to maintenance and repair, but also helping with the tools and equipment buildout of vehicles.
  • Monitor weather forecast and make adjustment calls for delays and cancellation of work related to safety in collaboration with Safety Manager and communicate to all impacted team members (including installation and Project Management).

Job Qualifications

  • 5 or more years of solar installation experience as an installer and/or crew lead, with preference given to those with supervisory experience.
  • Experience on the roof, ground mounted and canopy PV systems preferred.
  • Electrical license (Journeyman or Master) or relevant experience with equipment layout, conduit runs, wiring, and interconnections preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to coaching teams to work together to build trust and accomplish tasks through guidance and mentorship.  Experience developing teams and individual with goal setting and related follow up.
  • Experience in setting up and training for monitoring PV systems.
  • Experience analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills, and solid building skills.
  • Team Player.  Demonstrated experience as a strong team member across departments and regions.
  • Computer Proficiency.  Comfort with Microsoft Office suit, Google, Salesforce, and data management.  Maintain accurate and timely records in Salesforce, Google Calendars, and other systems.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to regularly lift up to 50 lbs, bend, twist, kneel, squat, climb ladders and work in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping and handling of materials.
  • Ability to work at heights-ladders, scaffolding, lifts and roofs.
  • Valid driver’s license and flexibility to travel throughout Vermont.
