Vermont Public is seeking a creative and thoughtful journalist to deliver first-rate news content to our broadcast and digital audiences as the News Editor.

Summary

Vermont Public is looking for someone who can help turn a breaking news story but also experiment with innovative ways to tell in-depth stories. As News Editor, the ideal candidate will take a lead role in shaping the essential news of the day. This is a key position that assists in creating and editing Vermont Public’s Morning Edition, All Things Considered and Weekend Edition newscasts, as well as interviews and issues coverage. This position also involves editing digital stories and working with reporters on features. Throughout the day you will edit reporters’ broadcast and digital stories. You should bring a collaborative spirit and the ability to lead a team and supervise content creation. The News Editor also works closely with editors, reporters, and producers across the newsroom, including: Vermont Edition, Brave Little State, and our daily news podcast, The Frequency.

Who Should Apply? 

Candidates must love the medium of public radio and audio storytelling and possess strong news judgment; direct broadcast experience not necessary. Five years of journalism experience required. Candidates are expected to have a high level of commitment and dedication to the mission of the organization and public media. Must be able to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with co-workers and audience, supporting and enhancing a culture of belonging as well as preserving confidentiality appropriately.
