About the Job

The Construction Coordinator leads efforts with individual households with complex repair and construction needs related to recovery efforts from natural disasters.  The Construction Coordinator will work with homeowners in prioritizing and planning repair work needed to re-establish safe and decent housing conditions for their household.

The Construction Coordinator will work closely with the Long-Term Recovery Group – affectionately known as LeARN – and the United Way of Lamoille County, who is the fiscal sponsor for LeARN and the eventual housing agency for the Volunteer Management System.  Specifically, the Construction Coordinator will work hand-in-hand with the LeARN Coordinator and the LeARN Household Advocate.

Responsibilities

The Construction Coordinator will support households identified through outreach to disaster impacted households by the LeARN Coordinator and Household Advocate in need of repairs and/or construction, including:

  • Provide affected homeowners with program information about the rehabilitation process.
  • Provide assistance to homeowners with obtaining bids and identifying contractors and volunteer organizations available to homeowners and as necessary to complete rehabilitation work.
  • Assisting owners with developing a rehabilitation plan for their dwellings, which may include coordinating materials purchasing, scheduling and coordination of volunteer labor.
  • Maintains files, records, applications, and other data concerning volunteer program.
  • Collaborate with other LeARN team members to fulfill goals identified by affected individuals.
  • In certain rehabilitations projects, oversee coordination of response efforts including site-specific allocation of materials and labor resources.
  • Other needs may arise throughout the course of employment. The successful candidate will be flexible in terms of overall work assignment.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Desire to help flood victims.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals with varying communication styles and needs.
  • Ability to communicate goals and objectives to local and national volunteers.
  • General experience in the construction trades, particularly with respect to coordination of multiple phases of construction/reconstruction projects.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple projects at multiple locations including coordination of volunteer and paid workers.
  • Ability to be adaptable and flexible in changing environment.
  • Ability to work within existing volunteer networks.
  • Strong knowledge of construction materials, generally accepted construction practices, and ability to evaluate construction timelines.
  • Ability to think strategically and creatively.
  • Strong safety record.
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Familiarity with PC and wireless technologies.
  • Reliable transportation.
