Employer's Approach to Diversity, Equity, & Belonging

VHCB’s mission is focused on providing equitable access to housing and land in Vermont. As a white-led organization, we recognize our need to listen with humility, to encourage open hearts, and to support those whose anger and rage comes from justice deferred and denied for too long. Our internal Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion committee is focused on organizing professional and personal learning and training for staff to understand systemic racism and implicit biases, recognize and disrupt white supremacy, and prioritize equity in the work we do. Externally, as a funding organization we are working to fund more projects and partners that focus on meeting the needs of BIPOC Vermonters. Our Land Access and Opportunity Board engages with Vermont organizations working on housing equity and land access to recommend new opportunities and improve access to woodlands, farmland, and land and home ownership for Vermonters from historically marginalized or disadvantaged communities who continue to face barriers to land and home ownership. We recently coordinated the Vermont Racial Justice Housing Jam, a four-part series examining how racial inequities impact access to housing in Vermont. We are committed to continued learning and growing and to making VHCB a more welcoming and supportive work environment.
