The Fleet Specialist is responsible for the administration of the company’s vehicle and equipment fleet, which includes, light, medium and heavy-duty vehicles as well as heavy off road equipment. Provides management and oversight to ensure a safe, reliable and professional fleet of vehicles and equipment. Ensure that company fleet needs are met in a timely and cost-conscious manner through the development of vehicle specifications, procurement efforts and the management of fueling and maintenance programs. Works with limited supervision while exercising initiative and independent judgement. Actively collaborates with field staff and managers to identify and resolve fleet needs.
How you will make an impact
- Plan for, budget, coordinate and manage work necessary to support the company fleet.
- Establishes capital replacement plans, as well as, fueling and maintenance programs.
- Maintain, manage and update fleet databases.
- Administers the fleet program including repairs, fueling, registrations, insurance cards, safety recalls and warranty claims.
- Work with manager to develop annual budgets, quarterly forecasts and monitors expense and capital expenditures.
- Work in collaboration with the safety manager and human resources personnel to develop vehicle operating requirements, establish expectations and ensure vehicles are outfitted with all required equipment for safe and efficient operation.
- Monitor fleet utilization and work with fleet operators and department managers to review fleet needs and assignments.
- Develop fleet replacement programs.

Skills and Qualifications
A minimum of 5 years’ experience in fleet management including program management, decision making, procurement and budgeting. Familiarity with fleet management practices, utility equipment, light, medium and heavy-duty vehicles and equipment as well as and general maintenance practices.
- Appropriate knowledge of electric utility industry fleet vehicles and equipment.
- Maintain up to date knowledge of alternative fuel technologies for fleet vehicles and equipment.
- Excellent verbal, written, analytical, interpretive, negotiation and management skills.
- Experience in performing event reviews, including Root Cause Assessments (RCAs).
- Knowledge of fleet management practices and utility equipment.
- Able to effectively communicate with all levels and operating areas.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Excellent skills with Microsoft suite.
- Strong Understanding of DOT laws and regulations.
- Knowledge of fleet management practices and utility equipment.
- Ability to plan, budget and execute fleet purchases and vehicle/equipment maintenance programs.
Education and Experience
A Bachelor’s degree in logistics, administration, business, or automotive technology is desired, although not required

- Starting pay will be determined at the time of offer based on the experience, education, and training of the successful candidate.
- This is a hybrid position and will require time at the Rutland campus on a weekly basis.

- Must be able to withstand periods of sitting or standing at a desk while working on a computer.
- Must be able to access VELCO’s facilities, which include transmission lines that extend across variable and often difficult terrain in all weather conditions.
- Must maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Must be able to maintain fast pace while completing complex work, with competing priorities, within tight timelines.
- This position requires travel throughout the state of Vermont, which includes some overnight travel, and work outside normal working hours.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and withstand strenuous activities from time to time.
