Employer's Approach to Diversity, Equity, & Belonging

VHCB staff have been engaged in education, discussion, and reading. A Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion committee
formed to bring resources to staff. VHCB contracted for an all-staff training with Service to Justice around the issues and we are in the process of contracting with a trainer to present theories of Non-Violent Communication to staff. VHCB was named to provide administrative support for the Land Access and Opportunity Board, established by the legislature in 2022 to engage with Vermont organizations working on housing equity and land access to recommend new opportunities and improve access to woodlands, farmland, and land and home ownership for Vermonters from historically marginalized or disadvantaged communities who continue to face barriers to land and home ownership. VHCB funded and housing staff worked with Abundant Sun to design and coordinate the Housing Jam speaker series currently underway, with a series of 4 local, national, and international speakers followed by roundtable discussions among housing providers to address barriers to housing access in policy and practice. Conservation staff have been participating in Conservation Leaders in Solidarity, a group that is discussing and making recommendations for increasing access to land and public recreational assets by BIPOC and economically disadvantaged Vermonters.
