About the Job

Lake Champlain Maritime Museum seeks an Executive Director to lead the organization into its next phase of service to the Lake Champlain Basin community, and regional, national and international visitors, by connecting people to the lake. The next Director will build on the accomplishments of a dedicated staff providing a robust set of programs including the Museum’s collections and exhibitions, archaeology programs, boatbuilding, on-water education, and hands-on learning. This is an opportunity to lead the organization at a pivotal time in its history as the new strategic plan charts a course that includes free admission and “pay what you can” program fees to provide greater access to all. Over the next four years the Museum will mark the 200th anniversary of the Erie Canal/Lake transportation system and the 250th anniversary of the Revolutionary War with new major exhibits that share the Museum’s ongoing research with the public and highlight the region’s diverse history in new ways. Employer's Approach to Diversity, Equity, & Belonging

We have spent the past two years working to remove barriers to access and pursuing new research projects that shine a light on untold stories of women and people of color in the Champlain Valley. Last year our staff and board participated in justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion training. We recognize that there is more work to do to create space, change bias, and dismantle systems that reinforce inequality. We are committed to using our skills as historians, archaeologists, educators, and communicators to make systemic change in our work and in the museum field.
