Employer's Approach to Diversity, Equity, & Belonging

The University of Vermont College of Education and Social Services (CESS) is engaged in cultivating learning and practice that is student-centered, family-focused, community-engaged, culturally competent, and collaboratively developed. We aspire to continue building a CESS community reflective of a diverse and global society, both physically and culturally, embodied through intentionally elevating the presence, contributions, voices, and perspectives of historically marginalized populations in the College and across the University.

This commitment, foregrounding diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), intentionally complements the CESS mission statement “…to promote a more humane and just society, free from oppression, which maximizes human potential and the quality of life for all individuals, families and communities.” Our CESS DEI Action Plan aligns with our college mission statement, and explicitly articulates our commitment in continuing to prioritize the hiring of staff who embrace the College’s commitment to DEI centered practices, as well as those who identify as members of groups historically marginalized within the College and across the UVM community at large.
