UVM Director of Orientation and Student Advancement
The University of Vermont’s Division of Enrollment Management is recruiting for a Director of Orientation and Student Advancement. This position provides university-wide leadership for Orientation and Student Advancement (OSA) serving over 5,000 students and families annually through new student orientation and coordinating the strategic retention efforts. Manages three full-time staff, personnel decisions and budgets just shy of one million dollars. Analyzes data that informs the retention strategy of undergraduate students at the University, school/college, and cohort levels. Understands current behaviors and mindsets of students through data in order to inform and develop retention strategy with the goal of improving persistence at UVM. Oversees the development of programs, services and staff that impact enrollment, retention, and student advancement. Produces signature University events. Serves on the Division of Enrollment Management’s (DEM) leadership team and manages department-wide training and development. Creatively and strategically implement ideas that will help attain retention goals for the University. Ensures all elements of OSA reflect the UVM and DEM commitment to diversity, social justice, and fostering a collaborative multicultural environment. Reports to the Vice Provost for Enrollment Management.
Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree in a related field and three to five years’ related experience in higher education administration, student development or related discipline with progressive responsibility, including supervision of full time staff required. Expertise supporting student success, particularly the transition to college and first year experience. Proven leadership, communication and organizational abilities with students, staff, faculty, and central administration required. Demonstrated development of cross-institutional collaboration and partnerships. Effective team development, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Experience assessing programs and services, and evidence of creative approaches to program development and management. Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and fostering a collaborative multicultural environment.
