Position Overview:

The Director of Buildings and Grounds is pivotal to the physical and environmental sustainability of our campus. The Director will work independently and collaboratively with the Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer to oversee a broad range of responsibilities—from campus safety and maintenance to green construction and energy efficiency. The Director’s efforts will be focused on preserving and enhancing Sterling College’s commitment to environmental responsibility, while ensuring that the campus infrastructure is safe, functional, and aligned with the College’s operational goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage maintenance of all facilities and equipment, including plumbing, electrical, fire safety control systems, septic systems, and large farm equipment.
  • Develop and manage an annual Buildings & Grounds budget.
  • Implement and oversee environmental, health, and safety requirements in collaboration with the COO and Risk Management Committee.
  • Focus on energy conservation through alternative energy sources such as propane, wood pellet and solar systems.
  • Serve as project director for construction or remodeling projects, ensuring compliance and quality.
  • Respond to physical plant emergencies and coordinate emergency response within the maintenance team.

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in construction project management.
  • Five plus years of physical plant maintenance experience.
  • Three plus years of supervisory and construction inspection experience.
  • Knowledge in heating and air conditioning.
  • Ability to respond to emergency needs.

What We Offer:

  • Salary range of $55,000 – $60,000
