Vermont Housing Finance Agency (VHFA), located in Burlington VT, has an immediate opening for a Community Development Underwriter. Named one of the “Best Small/Medium Places to Work in Vermont” the last few years, VHFA is looking for an individual who will help us to maintain our great reputation, and who demonstrates an elevated level of professionalism, political awareness, and excellent analytical skills, puts customers first, and works well both independently and as a team player.

This position supports the Development team through comprehensive analysis of prospective multifamily housing development loans, and tax credit award underwriting. Assists in the administration, development, and allocation portions of the Housing Credit program. Other duties include supporting existing portfolio workouts, implementing development programs, and coordination of reporting/data management relevant to development activities.  Contributes to the maintenance and implementation of policies and procedures relative to Development lending activities, with supporting policies and procedures related to program administration.

Bachelor’s degree in statistics, economics, political science, public policy/administration, business administration, or a related subject preferred.Two years of Housing Development or Housing Development Finance experience is encouraged, and certification or completed training for Affordable Housing Development is preferred. High-level proficiency in Microsoft Office products is desired, as is a creative problem-solving approach and good attention to detail. Familiarity with finance and financial risk analysis. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required, and the candidate must work well as a team player with a wide array of people including developers, property owners and managers, State and Federal representatives and staff.
