About the Job
The Children’s Literacy Foundation is a nonprofit based in Waterbury Center, Vermont. CLiF’s mission is to nurture a love of reading and writing among low-income, at-risk, and rural children up to age 12 throughout Vermont and New Hampshire.

Since 1998 CLiF’s inspiring literacy programs and our 64 professional presenters (local authors, illustrators, poets, storytellers, and graphic novelists) have served 350,000 children in 425 communities across the Twin States, and CLiF has donated almost $10 million in new books to those children who need them the most.

CLiF works with children in shelters and affordable housing; refugee, foster, and migrant children; children in rural communities with limited resources; children of prison inmates; and many others.  We also provide our free programs to schools, libraries, childcare centers, Head Start programs, after-school programs, and dozens of other venues.

If you’d like to learn more about our work you can visit our website.   You can also see CLiF’s work in action by watching these 4-minute videos about two of our nine programs:  CLiF’s Year of the Book, and CLiF’s Children of Prison Inmates program.

CLiF is seeking an additional member for our Board of Directors.  We are looking for an individual with leadership experience at for-profit or nonprofit organizations who wants to be involved in helping innovative, dynamic, and financially stable nonprofit do everything it can to inspire tens of thousands of young readers and writers who need the most support.

Our motto is “Opening Books, Opening Minds, Opening Doors.”  We have a wonderful, experienced, and dedicated Board of Directors who enjoy working together to achieve CLiF’s mission.   We enjoy what we do, we value efficiency, and we get stuff done.  If you have a passion for reading and writing, and for helping children develop a love of literacy, and you have experience guiding other organizations as they grow, then please contact us.
