Do you want to change some lives? Are you energized by the enthusiasm of supervising and supporting staff who work with middle and high school students? Then apply for a position with VSAC as Assistant Manager of our GEAR UP program. This position will work with GEAR UP staff who serve students in grades seven through twelve at 37 schools around the state. This is a full-time position, 52 weeks per year, with an immediate start date.

This Assistant Manager position will provide supervision and support to the eleven GEAR UP Outreach Counselors who provide career and college/technical training readiness services to middle and high school students.  The ideal candidate is adept at building relationships and making connections, is highly organized with significant attention to detail, works well independently, and is flexible and eager to learn. The successful candidate will have a background in supervision, administration, budget management, and the ability to develop rapport with school staff, state partners, and college personnel. These responsibilities will be provided in person and virtually. The position is based at VSAC’s Winooski office, with some option for hybrid work from home, and frequent travel to schools across the whole state required.

Experience and qualifications include but are not limited to a Master’s degree in counseling, education or related field or equivalent combination of experience and education in the following: supervision and management, working with youth in educational settings, an understanding of the socioeconomic and academic needs of first-generation, modest-income students and families, a working knowledge of adolescent development, career development, postsecondary options, financial aid, and familiarity with public school systems.

Our work is focused on those who need the most support, including members of the BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities, people from working class backgrounds, as well as other groups.  We strongly encourage applications from individuals who fully understand the challenges and the perspectives of the communities that we serve.

Applicants must have a valid driver’s license verified by a Motor Vehicle Record Report, a properly inspected, registered, and insured motor vehicle for business use, and provide their own workspace, including internet access when working away from VSAC offices. In order to work in public schools, applicants must also successfully complete a criminal background check.

This is a grant funded position that is contingent upon continued grant funds.

VSAC offers a dynamic, professional environment with competitive compensation and generous benefits package that includes health and dental insurance, retirement plans, tuition assistance, onsite fitness center, and more.  Apply ONLY on line at www.vsac.org (Jobs at VSAC link in site footer).
