About the Job

The Department of Athletics at Saint Michael’s College invites applications for the Assistant Director of Athletic Communications position. Candidates should possess strong visual multimedia skills to elevate and promote the accomplishments and stories of Purple Knight student-athletes through various platforms, including social media,, and NE10 NOW broadcasts. This position’s primary focus is on visual multimedia. We seek candidates who are excited to bring new and exciting ideas to this role and the department. The position reports to the Director of Athletic Communications and helps maintain the functions of the college athletic communications department. 


Saint Michael’s is an NCAA Division II institution sponsoring 21 varsity sports and is a proud member of the Northeast-10 Conference, Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association, and New England Women’s Hockey Alliance. 


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Conceptualizes and produces creative, original video feature stories, segments, and highlight reels, with the College’s new Media Creation Studio also at the Department of Athletic Communications’ disposal 
  • Designs original graphics and promotional posters for use on social media and in the Saint Michael’s Community
  • Maintains digital gameday programs 
  • Pitches and collaborates with the Director of Athletic Communications to generate story ideas 
  • Helps manage social media accounts, particularly Instagram 
  • Trains and manages student employees 
  • Supports other classic Athletic Communications duties, such as working as part of a team to maintain official statistics at sporting events through Stat Crew and NCAA Live Stats software, composing press releases, and performing media relations duties

Applicants must have the following:  

  • Bachelor’s degree with work experience in visual media, Athletic Communications, or a related field 
  • Proficient skills in Adobe Photoshop and Premiere Pro programs 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are a must 
  • Familiarity with Stat Crew and/or NCAA Live Stats statistical packages desired
