UP for Learning (Unleashing the Power of Partnership for Learning)
Posted: May 13, 2025
Organization Description
UP for Learning is a dynamic nonprofit that is transforming education through youth-adult partnership.
Founded in 2008, UP for Learning has become a national leader in youth-adult partnership and educational transformation. We know that young people are not the leaders of tomorrow — they are the leaders right now. Together, we are building a future where education is not just accessible, but liberatory.
At UP for Learning, we believe that authentic youth voice is essential to creating equitable, engaging, and effective learning environments. Through coaching, facilitation, and training, we help schools and communities fully engage youth as partners in shaping their education and communities. Our work supports cross-generational collaboration, shared decision-making, and systemic change that centers equity and justice.
Our board plays a critical role in advancing this mission. Board members provide thought partnership, strategic guidance, and ambassadorial support to strengthen UP’s statewide and national impact. We are a board made up of individuals (both youth and adults) from diverse backgrounds who share a deep commitment to educational equity, youth empowerment, and meaningful civic engagement.
We are currently looking to welcome new members who bring:
A passion for youth voice and educational transformation;
Relevant expertise or lived experience that complements our mission (including legal, nonprofit, education, equity, or business perspectives);
A collaborative spirit and willingness to contribute to a vibrant and evolving organization.
Specifically, we are seeking a lawyer with an interest in education or youth development.
If this opportunity resonates with you—or you know someone who might be a strong fit, we would love to connect. Thank you for considering being part of a movement that is reimagining education through partnership, purpose, and possibility.
Organization's Approach to Diversity, Equity, Belonging, & Inclusion
UP for Learning is deeply committed to advancing diversity, equity, and belonging by centering the voices and experiences of youth with marginalized identities in all aspects of its work. Through intentional, cross-generational partnerships, UP fosters inclusive learning environments where every young person feels seen, heard, and valued. The organization equips youth and adults with the tools to confront bias, examine systems of power, and co-create solutions rooted in justice. By cultivating authentic relationships and shared leadership, UP transforms educational spaces into communities where belonging is not just a goal, but a lived reality.
UP for Learning is deeply committed to antiracist work as a core pillar of our mission to reimagine education through youth-adult partnership. We recognize that educational systems have long upheld structures of oppression, and we actively work to dismantle those systems by centering the voices, leadership, and lived experiences of youth with marginalized identities. Our programs are intentionally designed to create equitable spaces where power is shared, and where issues of race, identity, and justice are named, examined, and addressed. Through ongoing staff learning, racially diverse youth leadership, and initiatives like the Racial Justice Dialogue Series, UP continuously works to build a culture of accountability, inclusivity, and collective liberation. We believe that antiracism is not a one-time training or checkbox, but a daily, lifelong practice woven into every layer of our organization and our partnerships.
