Organization Description
The City of South Burlington has many policy committees and several statutory committees that advise the City Council, explore policy areas, and provide guidance on specific areas of governance.
Policy committees include Bicycle & Pedestrian Committee, Economic Development Committee, Energy Committee, Housing Committee, Natural Resource Committee, Public Art Committee, Recreation & Park Committee,, Sextons.
Statutory committees include the City Charter, Development Review Board, Library Board, Pension Advisory and Planning Commission.

Do you have time, skills, or knowledge you would like to share to work toward solving complex issues and recommending policies that help shape the kind of community you want to live in? Citizen participation in local government is important to our success as a community. Attend a virtual or in-person meeting today to learn more about a specific committee or board.
Applications are due May 20, 2026. You may express interest in more than one committee in your application.
You must be at least 15 years of age and a resident of the City of South Burlington to serve on most committees (statutory committees excepted as their membership is determined by statute).Organization's Approach to Diversity, Equity, Belonging, & Inclusion
South Burlington is focused on being a welcoming community for all, has adopted the equity and inclusion declaration and has an equity toolkit for conducting outreach in the community. Both our library and recreation department seek to expand our offerings and engagement to serve all residents and we welcome partners in this effort. Currently the City is sharing an upward mobility manager with three other communities and we are eager to work together to move our community forward!
Board Terms and Term Limits
Terms vary from three to four years. Some appointments may be to finish up terms which have already begun.Frequency & Duration of Board Meetings
Policy committees generally meet monthly while the Planning Commission and Development Review Board meet twice per monthStipends for Board Membership
