Are you looking for a way to deepen your connection with The Root Social Justice Center? Do you believe in centering Blackness, building collective power, and sustaining a space for racial justice in Vermont? This is your opportunity to step into a leadership role with The Root and help shape the future of our work!
The Root is welcoming new voices to our Board of Directors! We are looking for community members who are passionate, engaged, and ready to contribute their unique gifts and perspectives to The Root. Our Board plays a key role in supporting The Root’s mission, guiding organizational decisions, and ensuring we remain a strong and sustainable force for justice!
🌱 Who are we looking for?
👉🏽Individuals with skills or interest in fundraising, finance, or nonprofit development (but all backgrounds are welcome!)
👉🏽People who are committed to racial justice
👉🏽 People with lived experience with racial injustice, systemic oppression, or marginalization—especially those directly impacted by the issues The Root works to address
👉🏽Youth who want to take on organizational leadership and ensure that youth voices, perspectives, needs, and experiences are centered in The Root’s work
👉🏽Folks who are active participants in The Root’s programs and community
👉🏽Those ready to partner with our Executive Director and staff in meaningful ways
🌿 What’s the commitment?
✔️Monthly Board meetings (90 minutes, virtual)
✔️Since the Board meets virtually, members can live anywhere in Vermont or even outside Vermont
✔️Some additional involvement in work sessions or projects (~1 hour/week)
✔️A desire to engage with The Root’s events and community (not required, but encouraged!)
✔️This is a volunteer role, but the experience is invaluable—learning how a grassroots organization operates, developing leadership skills, and being part of a collective committed to justice and liberation.
