Organization Description
Cathedral Square is a Vermont nonprofit with nearly 50 years of history developing and managing affordable housing and delivering supportive services for older adults and people with diverse needs. We operate across 28 communities, and our SASH (Support and Services at Home) program serves more than 5,300 Vermonters statewide, helping people live with stability, connection, and dignity in the homes they choose. Our board of directors is a working board of engaged leaders who bring diverse professional backgrounds and a shared commitment to housing justice and healthy aging. Board members help shape strategic direction, support organizational sustainability, and serve as ambassadors for Cathedral Square's mission within their communities.
Organization's Approach to Diversity, Equity, Belonging, & Inclusion

Our commitment to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion goes beyond policy. It shapes how we care for residents, support staff, and show up in our communities every day.

In 2025, we earned national recognition through the Long-Term Care Equality Index as one of only 274 senior housing communities in the country committed to inclusive care for LGBTQ+ older adults. This designation reflects our policies, training, and culture, and confirms that every resident can age with dignity and be their authentic self.

Our staff JEDI committee, operating under a board-approved action plan, drives ongoing education and engagement through book discussions, cultural sharing events, and conversations about identity and acceptance. We have set concrete staff diversity targets for management-level positions and are actively partnering with organizations including VT PoC to recruit BIPOC staff and board members. Our board-approved JEDI plan guides this work, and we survey residents and staff annually to listen and learn.
We welcome candidates who bring lived experience alongside professional expertise, and we are actively working to build a board that reflects the communities we serve.
